Music

Gary is a Korafola (kora player) and has been trained by the legendary Cissokho family. They are a Mandinka jeli (griot) family from Senegal and Gambia, West Africa. She has used her study of this instrument to connect to her own Mandinka ancestry from the Casamance region of Senegal.

She is an emerging violinist exploring both classical and Louisiana fiddle styles. She is deeply interested in exploring the musical traditions of her Louisiana roots through both the washboard and fiddle, in addition to exploring the early roots of Hip Hop music through the lens of the DJ.

Gary is also a singer and member of The Voices of Houston which is a choral ensemble dedicated to preserving the Negro Spiritual.
